HEALFICA Beacon ("Beacon") is the learner platform for HEALFICA's Healthcare Data Analytics cohort program. HEALFICA operates Beacon to support learners throughout the program.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who can access it, how we protect it, and the choices available to you.

1. Information We Collect

Google Sign-In

When you sign in to Beacon using Google, we receive basic profile information from your Google account:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Profile photo

We use this information to create and identify your Beacon account and personalize your experience.

Beacon does not request access to your Gmail, Google Drive, contacts, or other Google account data beyond the basic profile information required for sign-in.

Information You Provide

You may provide information directly through Beacon, including:

  • Daily activity submissions
  • Building in Public post links
  • Project submissions
  • Project files
  • Written reflections
  • LinkedIn profiles
  • GitHub profiles
  • X profiles
  • Portfolio websites
  • Other professional links you choose to provide

Programme Progress Information

Beacon records information related to your participation and progress, including:

  • Attendance
  • Points earned
  • Streaks
  • Project stages
  • Completed projects
  • Certificate eligibility status

Enrollment Information

Beacon access is limited to learners who have been accepted, paid the required programme fee, and enrolled in the cohort.

We maintain enrolled learner email addresses to verify access to Beacon. This enrollment information is separate from Google's authentication system.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide access to Beacon
  • Show your daily tasks and programme activities
  • Track your programme progress
  • Calculate points, attendance, streaks, and certificate eligibility
  • Review project submissions and provide feedback
  • Manage project submissions and files
  • Communicate with you about programme sessions, deadlines, submissions, and other programme-related matters
  • Manage the cohort and confirm programme completion
  • Maintain appropriate records of programme participation

We do not use your information for unrelated purposes without appropriate notice.

3. Leaderboard and Information Visible to Other Learners

Beacon includes a learner leaderboard.

Other learners may see:

  • Your cohort handle
  • Your points
  • Your rank
  • Your streak
  • Your completed projects
  • Other public progress statistics displayed by the leaderboard

Other learners do not see your:

  • Real name
  • Email address
  • Private submissions
  • Project files
  • Other private account information

Your submissions and progress information are available to authorized HEALFICA programme administrators for programme management and feedback.

4. Who Can Access Your Information

You

You can access your own profile, submissions, project information, and programme progress through Beacon.

HEALFICA Programme Administrators

Authorized HEALFICA programme administrators can access learner information, submissions, project files, and progress information when needed to:

  • Review learner work
  • Provide feedback
  • Manage the programme
  • Track participation
  • Confirm certificate eligibility

Other Learners

Other learners only have access to the limited information displayed through the Beacon leaderboard, as described above.

Third-Party Service Providers

Beacon uses third-party services required to operate the platform.

These include:

Google for authentication and basic account information.

Supabase for database services, authentication infrastructure, and storage of project files and other Beacon data.

We do not sell or rent learner information to third parties for marketing purposes.

5. How We Store and Protect Your Information

Beacon uses Supabase to store programme data and project files.

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, including authenticated access controls, to protect learner information from unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure.

No online service can guarantee absolute security. While we take reasonable measures to protect your information, you should understand that no method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure.

Beacon does not store payment card details or government identification numbers within the platform.

6. How Long We Keep Your Information

We retain learner information for the duration of the cohort and afterward as a record of programme participation, completion, project work, and certificate eligibility.

We may retain information for as long as reasonably necessary for these purposes, subject to applicable requirements and legitimate programme needs.

You may request deletion of your account and personal information as described below.

Some information may need to be retained where necessary to maintain an accurate record of programme completion or certificate eligibility.

7. Your Choices and Requests

You may contact HEALFICA to:

  • Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • Ask us to correct inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of your account and personal information
  • Ask questions about how your information is used

When you request deletion, some information may be removed from your Beacon account and associated records. Deletion may affect your ability to demonstrate programme participation or certificate eligibility.

We will review requests and respond in accordance with applicable requirements and the nature of the information involved.

8. Children's Privacy

Beacon is intended for adult learners participating in a professional development programme.

Beacon is not directed at children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under 18.

If we learn that we have collected personal information from someone under 18 without an appropriate basis, we will take reasonable steps to address the situation.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when our platform, data practices, or programme requirements change.

When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy.

For significant changes, we may also communicate the update directly to enrolled learners.
